It has been a couple of years that the Auryn Quartet decided quietly to hang up their bows.

Today, after 40 years together, the Auryn Quartet will play their last recital at the Mondsee Musiktage where first violin Matthias Lingenfelder is the director.

The Auryn have been a role model down the years for many other quartets.

They are the third major string quartet to shut up shop this year, after the Artemis and the Emerson.

The times, they are a-changing.
