It has been a couple of years that the Auryn Quartet decided quietly to hang up their bows.

Today, after 40 years together, the Auryn Quartet will play their last recital at the Mondsee Musiktage where first violin Matthias Lingenfelder is the director.

The Auryn have been a role model down the years for many other quartets.

They are the third major string quartet to shut up shop this year, after the Artemis and the Emerson.

The times, they are a-changing.

  • Brian says:

Not quite true. They are giving three further Beethovenfest concerts with friends in early September in three different venues around Bonn.

  • Vincent Thurgood says:

Saw them in Edinburgh around 15 years ago playing the Feldman String Quartet 2 and a short Webern piece. Thought they were great.
