New York State of Mind
This new video, filmed all over the five boroughs of New York City, is the happiest tribute to my other home town I’ve seen.
It includes many of the biggest NY-based stars, singing to reclaim their city, and mine, after the pandemic.
Check out the remarkable shooting, editing, and sheer professionalism that has gone into this presentation of the city, and the spot-on singing of Billy Joel’s perfect song. I grinned all through its six-minute length and then found there were tears coursing down my cheeks.
I miss New York. And I’ll be back.
Thumbs up from Manhattan!
Nice city. Good music. A lot to do in new york.
Not bad. Two questions: where was the man himself (saw the daughter), and who knew Stephen Colbert sang?
An Asian gent — non-singer — near the end looked like someone who used to feature regularly in one of Letterman’s “bits.” Anyone agree?
You’re right. That was Rupert Jee, proprietor of the Hello Deli and a frequent Letterman sidekick.
Ta. So long since I saw Letterman I had forgotten his name. This was a very clever video — lots of sort of inside jokes — as well as a very good one.
