Watch: Thomas Quasthoff’s first track for 8 years
mainThe wonderful German baritone who retired from the stage at the age of 52 is about to release his first album since 2010.
Sooooo good to have him back.
Here’s a reminder of the finest Lieder singer of his time:
I absolutely love Thomas Quasthoff; what a personality, what a voice!! Not sure he’s suited to this repertoire, though. Good luck Thommy!!
The ‘Kindertotenlieder’ I heard with him in the 1990ies are one of the most memorable and emotional concert experiences I ever had, and I had very many…
Great singer, great musician. Love the way he pays attention to the words without over-sculpting them. A lot of singers will either focus on the musical line to the extent that the words are pretty much meaningless, or focus on individual words to the extent that the musical line is lost. This is a risk in any genre, but it increases when a classical singer “crosses over.”
It’s not surprising that such an intelligent singer avoids both these pitfalls (while also singing beautifully).
