Jaap Van Zweden takes NY Phil back to China
OrchestrasThe outgoing music director, who is well regarded in China for his term at the Hong Kong Philharmonic, will be taking the New York Philharmonic on a five-concert tour in June and July.
It will be the NY Phil’s first trip for five years and it follows successful trips by Boston and Philadelphia.
The Dutchman will give his last concert as music director at Vail on July 20.
I heard Jaap conduct the LA Phil in the best Beethoven Fifth!
His Beethoven 5th was what got him his job at the NY Philharmonic.
It’s become sort of his calling card.
