    What a shame.

  • Mattias Y. says:

It is important to acknowledge the current situation and not turn a blind eye to it. In my opinion, individuals with a strong sense of empathy and conscience should consider boycotting this competition. Shame to all of them including George Harliono

  • Mystic Chord says:

I don’t understand – why write an earlier article slating this competition and now give them more oxygen? Who on earth cares who comes first or last in this state sponsored nonsense?

  • Ruffles says:

Only Western contestants mentioned in this post…. why? Trying to get a reaction from readers who will comment on them taking part given Russia’s invasion of Ukraine… your middle name is ‘clickbait’, Norman. POV journalism to the end.

    • interesting says:

Interesting that he allowed this comment, though..
A country with such fine arts but such a moron leader

  • Sam says:

Utterly pathetic and shameful – all of them.

Will boycott their future concerts and will not be watching any of the competition.

    Slava Ukraina!

  • Luke Moissinac says:

Tadokoro’s teacher Shereshevskaya should tell him to cut out the faux vibrato he engages in. No matter how much you shake your hand while holding on to long notes on the piano you cannot achieve any vibrato. Once you hear a sound, the piano hammer would have long dropped away from the string and cannot influence the sound any more. Attempting such faux vibrato only displays a sore lack of understanding of the mechanism of the piano.

  • just saying says:

Marcel Takadoro was amazing in last year’s Cliburn and should have been a finalist. Happy to see him doing well here!

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

I certainly hope that wasn’t Gergiev looking at his phone yesterday during one of the 2nd round performances!!

  • VIVIEN says:

Is this for real? What are they doing in Moscow? TRAITORS!!

    • Novagerio says:

In the middle of a nuclear disaster threat between USSR and USA back in 1958, two years after the Soviet Invasion of Hungary, Texan Van Cliburn won the Gold Medal in the first ever Tchaikovsky Competition. Back then he was regarded an angel of peace. Was he a TRAITOR too?

  • history repeats itself says:

Inside the Great Hall of Moscow Conservatory: the very thin layer of art, surrounded by and mixed with propaganda. Outside: the reality of what the Russian state is all about.
