Not necessarily. Most authentically Russian would be “Рахманинов” in which the last consonant is pronounced much closer to the sound of what English speakers spell as letter F rather than V.

Rachmaninov spent most of his life living in West including the USA. We know his views regarding the Soviets. The present regime would probably not in his view be an improvement. On a more pleasant note (sic) I remember listening on R3 to Horowitz playing in Moscow in the Hall where he’d been a student. We had hopes then that things would turn out better there. How naive we were.
Horowitz never played R3 in Moscow. His only concert
in Moscow was a solo concert in 1986.
You misunderstood me because I should have said i listened to a live BBC Radio 3 broadcast of Horowitz in Moscow. I Live in the UK. R3 does not refer to a composition.
Horowitz was never a student in Moscow. He studied at and graduated from Kyiv Conservatory. He did play in the Great Hall in Moscow in 1923, but he’d already graduated by then. Horowitz’s preferred city in Russia was Leningrad (now St. Petersburg) where he played 23 concerts with 11 different programs during the 1923-1924 season.
I did listen to Horowitz live on BBC radio 3 playing in the Moscow Hall. Sorry I didn’t consult his cv,but the issue is the present Russian regime exploiting R’s memory now.
