  • Akutagawa says:

I think if you get to that age any respiratory infection, up to and including the common cold, has a good chance of killing you. Still, a long life well lived, and my condolences to friends and loved ones.

  • drummerman says:

Norman, if you read the obituary, you would know that she was not the “founder.”

  • Bill Ecker says:

The Walter W. Naumberg Foundation was founded in 1925 when Madame Mann was four years of age. While she was incredibly important to the foundation and helped build it to the powerhouse it is today, she was not employed there until 1972.

  • Mrs. Mann “ran” the Naumburg competition, which was founded by Walter Naumburg in 1925 or 1926

  • A Dolfadam says:

Maybe now the competition will open to more musicians and just be an insider’s inside track, in accessible to almost anyone who doesn’t attend Juilliard.

    • John Porter says:

That’s a crappy thing to say upon the death of Lucy Mann and not warranted. Shame on you. And for whatever it’s worth, the Chamber Music Competition, for example, has been won by groups from all sorts of schools and there has always been an open call for applications.

  • Ricky says:
