RIP

The distinguished and long-serving Kantor of Bach’s Leipzig church, Georg Christoph Biller, has died after prolonged illness.

He resigned the post for health reasons in 2015, having served with diligence since 1992. Biller, a former boy singer in the church choir, was appointed within months of graduating from Leipzig’s Hochschule für Musik und Theater Felix Mendelssohn Bartholdy.

He was truly a son of the church.

I don’t know why the link copied like this, with the last part greyed out. It works if you use the full link (including the last part).

This man was to me the finest choral conductor of recent years. Look at his videos with the Thomaners on Youtube. He was so easy to follow. Although good I don’t think the two men who came after him come close. I gather his last years were beset by depression. I am confident he rests now with the Lord.
