In addition to James Gaffigan’s appointment as music director, the Komische Oper has hired a new Kapellmeister. She is Erina Yashima, presently Assistant Conductor of the Philadelphia Orchestra.

Erina, who is German born, will start in September, a year ahead of Gaffigan, to provide continuity with the outgoing chief Ainārs Rubiķis. ‘It closes the gap and ensures a good transition until the new GMD takes office,’ said Berlin’s Senator for Culture Klaus Lederer. Erina says: ‘I am thrilled to announce that I will become the First Kapellmeister of the Komische Oper Berlin from the 2022/23 season!’
