I actually believe that during the pandemic a number of record labels have seen a positive increase (even substantial) in terms of revenue. Depending on their market. Lot of people have been increasing their level of listening through mail orders. Considering this, going for a hiatus might have been a mistake. Of course, the situation is totally different when it comes to artists: the Harmonia Mundi artists and ensembles have been hit hard in particular.
Sadly an increase in sales isn’t the case if you read the BPI sales reports.
It’s better to ease back into recording rather than do nothing at all.
