Yeah, he almost stepped in it there.
I’ve always had a soft spot for this early Bernstein work, set to his own texts (infinitely preferable, IMHO, to the cheesy and frequently embarrassing lyrics he wrote for the much later “Arias and Barcarolles”).
Fun and lovely piece. Just like “La bonne cuisine”, the other song-cycle by Lenny.
We need more of this.
