Sicklist: Noseda makes snap Concertgebouw debut
mainGianandrea Noseda is flying at very short notice to Amsterdam to conduct Benjamin Britten’s War Requiem tomorrow, Friday and Sunday.
He replaces conductor emeritus Mariss Jansons who ‘has had to cancel the concerts due to health reasons’.
“Is flying at very short notice…”?
Actually he has been there all week.
Yes. This replacement has been announced many weeks ago.
… “for health reasons”
or
… “due to ill health”
but never
… “due to health reasons”
Genius Olassus, please go live in any Asian country and be beaten to death by your lack of “grammatical correctness”
🙂
Then you may be able to see your post from a different perspective.
I predict a very good rapport with the orchestra and Noseda making it into the inner circle of new chief conductor candidates.
Hmmm, that would make 3 Italian MDs for a top 10 orchestra, I don’t know what top 10 orchestra had 3 Italian MDs…
Yeah, everyone knows there’s a 2 Italian MD maximum
Try the Staatskapelle Dresden…. they’ve had 9 or 10 I believe.
Is there a quota?
Same thing happened a few years ago with Davis and the LSO. Noseda conducted a magnificent War Requiem at AFH.
I hope Maestro Jansons isn’t seriously ill. Thoughts.
GN is scheduled to do the Requiem back in DC on 29 Nov with Bostridge and Goerne.
And a soprano soloist too, I hope?
Noseda has a fine recording of the “W.R” on – I believe – the LSO LIve label. I like both his and Pappano’s. Of course, it’s extremely difficult to beat the ‘original cast’ recording with Britten himself conducting.
Even if you prefer another recording of the actual Requiem, the rehearsal excerpts that are available on one of the Britten conducting releases are marvellous.
Of course. Britten was a “marvellous” conductor, in general.
And a soprano soloist too, I hope?
The performance was very fine. I was there on Thursday.
