Bayreuth is hit by US star withdrawal
NewsMessage from the Bayreuth Festival:
To his and our greatest regret, Stephen Gould has to cancel his participation in this year’s Bayreuth Festival on urgent medical advice.
Festival Director Katharina Wagner would like to express her sincere thanks to Andreas Schager (for the role of Siegfried in “Götterdämmerung”), Clay Hilley (for the title role in “Tristan und Isolde”) and Klaus-Florian Vogt (for the title role in “Tannhäuser”). We wish Stephen Gould a speedy recovery!
They took their time to announce this.
The replacements are ofthe highest caliber!
Vogt in the truly heldentenor role of Tannhauser seems like a stretch, much as I enjoyed him in Meistersinger, Parsifal, and Lohengrin (all more lyric). We’ll have to see.
What comes to my mind when I hear Vogt (nice guy otherwise!) in the Wagnerian Schwerfach
