A week after being appointed music director of the Minnesota Orchestra, the Danish conductor Thomas Søndergård has announced a different kind of happiness.

The couple’s kilts were presumably acquired at the maestro’s other position, with the Royal Scottish National Orchestra.

    Congratulations, you are courageous.

    • Hercule says:

Courageous for getting married? Hardly. Get with the times man!

      • Peter X says:

        But in the US?

        • MWnyc says:

I believe the wedding happened in or near Copenhagen, the couple’s home.

But — for now — they should be fine in the US overall and in the Twin Cities: their marriage is legally recognized, and Minnesota probably wouldn’t repeal marriage equality if the Supreme Court made that possible.

Congratulations to Maestro Sondergard!! I look forward to hearing him in concert in the future. Someone whose opinion I respect told me he flies below the radar but is a major talent.

What are they carrying in their sporrans?

    Wedding cake?

    Haggis?

    A wee dram?

    Of what?

  • Robert Holmén says:

He didn’t announce his wedding until two weeks afterward? Like it slipped his mind?

    What is that about?

    • MWnyc says:

I presume formal announcements were for friends and family, but he didn’t exactly keep it secret. He mentioned in the big article in The Star Tribune (Minneapolis-St.Paul) that he had just gotten married, though it wasn’t clear that it had been only a week before.

    • Tiredofitall says:

Not everything in life is for immediate release.

      Congratulations!

  • Bill Busse says:

Congratulations! You and your husband are just what Minnesota and this country needs!

    • Barbara says:

I don’t quite understand your comment as I always thought the Mpls/StPaul area to be very progressive. I’m hoping all the people that have been frightened off by Covid come back in droves and support the musician’s and hopefully superior programming.
