Royal Ballet star dies, at 102
RIPA cornerstone of the Covent Garden Ballet, Henry Danton has died in Mississippi at the great age of 102.
Danton was part of the opening 1946 cast of Frederick Ashton’s Symphonic Variations, alongside Margot Fonteyn, Moira Shearer, Pamela May, Michael Somes and Brian Shaw.
He went on to join a travelling Russian troupe and wound up teaching dance at Juilliard.
He looks like David Bowie, or Bowie looked like him.
However did this wonderful dancer end up in the backwater slum of Mississippi! He deserved more.
His choice. He said he liked the slower lifestyle.
Oh, and he didn’t settle in Mississippi until he was in his 70s.
He was still teaching right up until the pandemic hit.
