Cancer claims Canadian mezzo, 41
RIPTributes have been pouring in for the Vancouver-based mezzo-soprano Rose-Ellen Nichols whose life was cut short this week.
Rose was just 41.
She sang in two productions at the Wexford Festivl in Ireland and was repeatedly reinvited to Prague, where she sang Janacek, Tchaikovsky and Mozart roles.
The music site Ludwig Van calls her death ‘a big loss for opera in Canada.’
Brent Calis writes: Rose-Ellen Nichols had the voice of an angel. I remember crying every single time she sang Dido’s lament. No matter how many times I heard it. I’m crying today. The world lost an incredible soul, and I am so mad at myself for not writing her lately. Sending her family and all of our shared friends a lot of love today.
Awful, my condolences. So many young people dying these days.
