Death of leading Italian composer
RIPFriends are reporting the death of Sylvano Bussotti, a highly original Florentine composer, former artistic director of Teatro La Fenice.
A man who loved to shock, he once hired a prostitute to deliver his address to the Venice Biennale.
Bussotti was 89 and living in a care facility.
The video conveys how it feels when you have succumbed to an incurable form of insanity. That is why such ‘music’ was pushd forward by the new music elite in the last century: it demonstrated the times and its progress. Classical music audiences never accepted such utterances as music, not because they were conservative, but because they had already enough insanity to deal with outside the concert hall.
I remember his Rara Requiem being booed at London QEH in the 80s. But RIP anyway
Although I can’t remember the booing, I’m sure you’re right about it. I was one of the vocal soloists in that performance, and I remember we all thought it was quite silly! If Simon Rattle thought so, he was able to keep it to himself and conduct with full commitment!
Bussotti’s scores are the most beautiful out there: https://images.app.goo.gl/uAEGk9jtTeGPV5uC7
