Andrea Chenier – our live streamed opera of the week
OperaToday’s live opera is Giordano’s Andrea Chénier
Transmitting our weekly live-performance selection from OperaVision.
The formidable Hungarian State Opera perform Andrea Chénier under the baton of Balázs Kocsár and directed by Fabio Ceresa. Together they set out to capture the atmosphere before and during the Revolution. ‘A deadly hymn to life filled with revolutionary zeal, the fervour of love and the foreboding of tragedy.’ (Népszava newspaper)

What would be our life if this beautiful music did not exist?
It had to be created.
Attractive playing and conducting of an opera I’ve loved ever since first hearing Beniamino Gigli’s classic recording now on Naxos. These singers sound above average to me, with a good baritone. Expert scoring by Umberto Giordano, and a predictanly good chorus.
I enjoyed every minute of this performance.
Bravo to the whole group, I am proud to be from Hungary, (was a ballet student) a very long time ago.
