Sony finally say sorry
mainFor this.
We apologize for the confusing tweet surrounding John Williams’ birthday. Which one you ask? The composer, of course! 😳 On a more serious note, thank you to the legendary composer John Williams for sharing your beautiful music with us for all of these years. Happy 88th birthday!

To be known in future as Sorry Classical.
Which composer? There is more than one!
Not when it comes to film music composers that are still alive.
Twitter should no longer be used for official statements.
It is a risk and is evidently being misused.
Sony should send a personal birthday card by post next time.

“We apologize for the confusing tweet.” Nice spin. No one was confused except for Sony executives. It was a mistake—a very embarrassing one which took an inordinate amount of time for them to correct. At least the red-faced emoji is honest.
Now I can’t wait for someone to make the same mistake with John Adams:
“Not only was he the second president of the United States, but he has also written such masterpieces as ‘Nixon in China’ and ‘Become Ocean.’ Happy 275th birthday John Adams!”
(with a picture of Luther Vandross)
Probably with a picture of John Luther Adams
Here’s the E.T theme (which itself could have derived from the solo trumpet theme in Mahler’s Rondo-Burleske Trio of the 9th https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d9KmaFXGH3I)

It is actually almost a note for note reprise of the 2nd subject from the fourth mvt of Korngold’s Suite for Piano (Left Hand) Opus 23 written in 1928.
Hope they don’t confuse John Anthony Lennon with you-know-who.
