Second job for rising Anja
mainThe German conductor Anja Bihlmaier, newly appointed chief conductor in The Hague, has taken a second job in Finland.
She will be principal guest at the Lahti orchestra, where the chief is Dima Slobodeniouk. She starts next year.
Congrats!
She’ll have to swot-up her Sibelius.
No objections against a new Wood Nymph.
Good for Anja, but a German trained conductor going to Finland is a bit like carrying coals to Newcastle.
But it’s not worse than having Rattle and Gardner in London or Thielemann in Dresden.
I think we should drop nationality and gender and focus on what is achieved in the concert hall.
Lahti has a nice one.
Whatever gave you there idea that this comment was a slam? It’s a simple fact that Finland has produced dozens of talented conductors. It is interesting they chose a German for the Lahti. Their main conductor is Finnish. There is no “worse” to it.
Kindly drop the assumptions. Thanks.
A nice what? 🙂
A concert hall.
Finland has had 200 years of German conductors. Difficult to see the point…
But nothing unusual.

Or the humor, apparently.
So she’ll be a Slobo sub then? I can’t pronounce or even spell Slobodeniouk.
Very nice! Can’t wait to hear her with either (or any other) orchestra – colleagues in the know tell me she is musical, intelligent with interesting ideas and a solid technique.
Congrats to Lahti, she’s a great conductor!
