Maestro move: Belgians cry Wolff
mainThe Belgian National Orchestra have chosen a new chief conductor to succeed Andrey Boreyko next year.
He is the Boston-based Hugh Wolff, 62, director of orchestras at the New England Conservatory. Wolff’s last European attachment, with the Frankfurt radio orchestra, ended a decade ago.
Congratulations, Hugh. I remember your tenure with the New Jersey Symphony among others. The Belgians made a good choice.
He was also formerly music director of the Saint Paul Chamber Orchestra
That’s where I saw and heard him work. Can’t believe he’s 62 already.
Terrific person, terrific conductor. Congratulations to him and to the Orchestra.
And he recorded the Antheil symphonies with the RSO Frankfurt for CPO.
Congratulations, Hugh! They are lucky to have you! We had many good years together in St. Paul!
I also recall performances with the New Jersey Symphony in the then-unrefurbished but acoustically marvelous Trenton War Memorial. Classic world-class performances. Best wishes.
62? Last year i worked with him, and I was sure, he is around 40…
