Tribunal upholds ban on leading double-bass teacher
mainDuncan McTier, who pleaded guilty in 2014 to indecent assault on women students from the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester and the Purcell School, has lost his appeal against an indefinite ban on him teaching.
McTier, 62, resigned from the Royal Academy of Music when the accusations became known. He received a three-month suspended sentence and a lifetime teaching ban. A National College for Teaching & Leadership tribunal yesterday reinforced the ban.
He may apply again for the ban to be lifted in 2021.
this ban does not apply to teaching privately or abroad – Prof. McTier’s teaching in Zurich seems to be unaffected:

“McTier, from west London, fondled a 17-year-old’s breasts during lesson in 1985”.
I think that probably says everything we need to know about his suitability to work as a teacher.
We should not forget that double bass players are, more than any other instrumentalist, subject to emotional and erotic frustration since the instrument they tenderly embrace on a regular basis in the service of high art, is never responding back with similar affections.
