The Augsburg State Theatre in Bavaria has founded a Paul Ben-Haim Orchestra Academy to train future musicians.

Ben-Haim, born in Munich as Paul Frankenburger and assistant to Bruno Walter, migrated to Tel Aviv in 1933 as a result of Nazi persecution. He became the founding composer of the unborn state of Israel.

    Shouldn’t it be ‘named after’?

  • zandonai says:

“assistant to Bruno Walter, migrated to Tel Aviv in 1933…” How old is this guy? 120 ??

  • Michael in Europe says:

Might be worth mentioning that prior to assisting Walter, he was Kapellmeister in Augsburg for several years.

  • Allma Own says:

Marvelous. He was a truly great composer. His symphonies are masterpieces. He should be played everywhere, but Israeli composers never are.
