A cruise missile was intercepted in Haifa while the Israel Philharmonic were performing Mahler’s 4th symphony in the port city.

The Islamic Resistance of Iraq issued a video, claiming that it attacked Haifa with an Al-Arqeb long-range cruise missile.

Musicians and audience were unharmed.

I was in the concert in Haifa- no missile was intercepted in the town during the concert, the concert (with violinist James Ehnes and conductor Gianandrea Noseda) went as usual- including a beautiful Bach encore by Ehnes after he played a magnificent Barber concerto. If any missile was intercepted during or before the concert , it was far away from Haifa. Till now Haifa is not directly involved in the war, life goes on normally, including many concerts by the Israel PO, Haifa SO and various chamber ensembles.

      So:

-A missile didn’t hit Mahler 4 (watever it means)

-It wasn’t even intercepted over Haifa

-It wasn’t intercepted during the concert.

I wonder what the post is about then. But of course it reached its purpose of me reading (and commenting on) it.

The Orchestra that started its life as The Palestine Symphony Orchestra!

    • Eyal says:

So what? The players were all Jewish players who fled from the Nazism, not Arab Palestinians. The name of the orchestra when it was founded included both name of Palestine and “the land of Israel”( in Hebrew ).

    • Noam P says:

It was called Hatizmoret Ha’eretz Israelit התזמורת הארץ ישראלית
      In Hebrew

They must try to live as normally as possible. Music has a powerful influence on the state of mind.

  • Tony Sanderson says:

Hopefully the Philharmonia’s performance in Bedford on 31 January will be safer.

  • Tony Sanderson says:

Of Mahler 4 that is. However, it looks like Haifa was safe at the time judging by the various posts here.

  • Dixie says:

Norman, others are calling this post what it is, i.e. fake news. Why do you keep deleting my comments?

  • Alan says:

Meanwhile bombs hit gaza civilians who were probably not listening to mahler 4 because they don’t have power, medical supplies or food.
