Gergiev pledges to campaign for Putin
NewsRussian media report today that Valery Gergiev is among an elite group of citizens who have volunteered to be Vladimir Putin’s “доверенные лица” in the presidential ‘election’ next March.
A Доверенное лицо is an authorized representative who campaigns on behalf of a candidate for President of the Russian Federation, and can speak and act on his behalf.
Gergiev, who has backed Putin in previous elections, has now officially designated himself a sock-puppet – presumably as a quid pro quo for being made head of the Bolshoi.
He can expect to be assigned future engagements in Pyongyang, Damascus and Teheran.
Are we to assume that Gergiev just knows “the direction the wind blows” or is he doing what he believes is best? They are probably not mutually exclusive. (Sad)

He’s going to campaign in addition to kissing VP’s rear?? Valery must have REALLY wanted the Bolshoi.
What a hideously backwards country and “people” with a seemingly genetic propensity towards barbarous evil.
Just don’t buy a product if it’s spoiled. Or gone by its sell-by date.
