The conductor has confirmed he will take on Lohengrin in 2025, reclaiming a Yuval Sharon propduction that he launched in 2018.

Christian Thielemann has conducted at Bayreuth every summer this century until 2022, when he quit as music director. Now the soap opera is about to resume.

Will they give him back his parking slot?

Comments

  • Anthony Sayer says:

Good. No-one better in this rep.

  • zaying says:

Lohengrin, again? I thought he wanted Parsifal for 2025? The intrigue continues.

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

Good on CT. Best wishes for his continued success.

  • Anthony Sayer says:

The parking slot thing was rather funny back then. I pitched up early June, saw the sign and asked Katharina about it. Nobody knew apart from the man who’d actually made the sign, which I, personally, find rather charming. Prior to that, the three slots in that row were reserved for the Theaterarzt and ‘Dirigenten’. I recall Daniele Gatti turning up in his oversized Audi, finding nothing free and having to mingle with the polloi. Must have been awful for him.

    • Kenny says:

In the 80s and 90s, there was always the “Theaterarzt,” but the other four Dirigenten spots were open. Never more than two Dirigenten there at a time, even during rehearsal month.

  • Doc Martin says:

Bayreuth needs to drop its Dadaesque productions, which have no bearing on Wagner at all.
