  • Evan says:

I enjoyed hearing several works by Carmen Petra Basacopol on visits to Romania in the early 2000s. Always written with intent and intense personal feeling that conveyed an instinctual love of Romanian culture and fervently held religious beliefs, her work deserves to be far better known than it is. As well as excellent songs, chamber works and choral pieces, her orchestral writing was always imaginatively scored. R.I.P.

    • Robert says:

How is it you’re so familiar with chamber music? My wife (who received one of the last “Master of Harpsichord Performance” degrees Northwestern University issued, hadn’t heard of this composer. Are you a musician as well?

  • Dieter says:

Iron curtain composers??? How arrogantly put! Are American composers Colonizer composers?
Are they really to be labeled like that? I think not but that’s what Norman’s gen does. Labelling.

  • Z Strings says:

She wrote some fairly interesting and good harp music. Her sonata for flute and harp may be the best-known work.
