Salzburg gives Karajan award to a Korean

The Herbert von Karajan Young Conductors Award 2023 has been won at the Salzburg Festival by a South Korean, Hankyeol Yoon, 29.

He overcame Vitali Alekseenok from Belarus and Austria’s Tobias Wögerer in the final.

The jury was chaired by Manfred Honeck.

Yoon is already listed for management with AskonasHolt.

      I think the headline was written as it was solely for the sake of alliteration (Karajan/Korean).

      If you haven’t noticed, NL always finds it important to mention the nationality of people, regardless of its relevance. It’s divisive, but some tribally conditioned minds have a hard time overcoming this destructive mental imprint.
      It so totally misses the essence of music: uniting all people in one human family.
