    Lorenzo Bigotti

  • IP says:

I bet Bach’s 48 that more will follow.

  • Mary C says:

I’m sure there are plenty of opera fans who could get behind that.

  • Van Der Meegeren says:

It’s all that time in Amsterdam, he’s developed Dutch courage otherwise he’d have lowered his arms.

  • anmarie says:

    Sigh …

  • Gustavo says:

    baton-shaming

  • A.L. says:

    Other than WTF, no words.

    • Biber says:

So you mean – Wow, That’s Fantastic

    • Otto Lohenring says:

Viotti is only copying photos and poses of earlier great conducting legends, like Karl Böhm, Otto Klemperer, Hans Knappertsbusch and Fritz Reiner, so the only difference here is that the photo is in colour, he shows less flesh, they were all much sexier and they were better conductors than him.

  • Anon says:

Nice! Beats Yannick by a long shot.

  • HReardan says:

    100% Pathetic.

  • Disturbed says:

Classical Music is mostly about Show nowaday!

  • jimbo says:

Hope he didn’t get his baton burned!

  • Jonathon says:

Calling him the ‘outgoing chief’ of the Dutch National Opera is not really correct considering he has actually extended his contract to stay until the end of the 24/25 season, and he is first and foremost principal conductor of the Netherlands Philharmonic Orchestra. As to his desire to post near naked photos etc, Mr Lebrecht does seem to be somewhat obsessed with him.

    • Tiredofitall says:

I believe the obsession label falls to Maestro Viotti. It doesn’t seem that Mr. Lebrecht needs to look that far to find this narcissist’s pics.

    • Ruben Greenberg says:

If the Dutch National Opera paid him more, he could afford some clothes and wouldn’t have to go naked.

  • Tamino says:

He is working very hard on his body, so naturally he likes to show it off, since he has a large audience for that? Narcissus is also modeling, isn’t he?
Is it true that he and Andy Ottensamer are a couple?
Now why is he stopping already in Amsterdam?
He ain’t no Furtwängler. Furtwängler made the ladies swirm with the magic of his music making. Today it’s done with instagram, but it’s only having 1% of the emotional intensity, even with an impressive body like his. LOL.
The kids are lost in all the visuals. Hopeless generation in a way.

    • Donna Pasquale says:

Who was Furtwangler? Has he been around recently?

      • Tamino says:

He’s more around than these kids, that’s for sure. Now that’s talking from the perspective of music.
As far as selling stuff is concerned the free market follows the demand supply rule. Shallow people consume shallow stuff.

    • zayin says:

“he and Andy Ottensamer are a couple?”

Only on the internet, I doubt they’re gay, just a case of projected Bromance, they’re probably not even friends, but beautiful people do tend to flock together, I should know, he and Andy keep trying to friend me on Facebook and liking my Instragram posts, and I’m like ewww nooooo, not in your wildest dreams!

  • Jonathan Sutherland says:

Well, as Lorenzino is already the poster boy for Bulgari, he might as well add Equinox gyms or Salvavidas Pharmaceuticals to his list of sponsors.
He is going to need them when the music world finally comes to the the conclusion that Viotti is a case of the Emperor maestro’s new clothes and that his abs and biceps are far more impressive than his understanding of Brahms or Mahler.
French horn playing brother Alessandro, based at the Opéra National de Lyon is a much more impressive musician.

    • Gustavo says:

You cannot conduct if you’re a poser.

      • Mark Mortimer says:

Lets slightly twist around your quote Gustavo- in the present day Classical music business regrettably ‘If you’re NOT a poser- you cannot get a conducting position’.

      • Tamino says:

I’m not sure about the veracity of that in the eye of the public.
This business is just getting more cynical by the day.
But it will have a long agony before it’s fully dead.
It will be dead only, when the last agent couldn’t make his or her cut anymore, no matter what.

        • Kenny says:

Having “worked in the field” 40+ years, I don’t see it shutting down anytime in the foreseeable future, because “dumbing down.” That works real well for a while. (Next season’s Met brochure, for example.)

But obviously, its shelf-life is precariously close to over. I won’t live to see it collapse.

  • The Fun is Still Over says:

    Take that, Yuja!

  • Mark says:

Who cares? Nothing special *eye rolls*

  • Sue Sonata Form says:

He can go to the toilet behind that rock, if necessary. Surely there’s no need to hold on much longer!!

  • Gustavo says:

    Eine kleine Nackt-Musik

    Streakerserenade

  • Karl says:

Next year he will conduct concerts with the VIENNA PHILHARMONIC.
    Disgusting!!!
Strange that Böhm, Karajan, Bernstein… didn’t have to do that. Very strange indeed

    • Anon says:

Well Yannick has been conducting the MET wearing everything from a boxing outfit to flowered shirts to painted nails, a diamond earring & bleached blonde hair so this literally nothing.

    • Continuo Girl says:

We don’t know what they did! It’s probably just lucky they didn’t have Instagram!

  • David K. Nelson says:

I am reminded of a remark Oscar Levant made to George Gershwin. “Tell me something, George… if you had it to do all over again, would you still fall in love with yourself?”

  • John R. says:

Yannick: Damn! I wish I had thought of that!

  • Larry W says:

Not sure the concertmaster will want to shake his hand.

  • Ernest says:

Starting his alternative career? Good to have a fall back …

  • Eddie says:

    That man is so hot!

  • JR says:

Didn’t want to hold onto a single Corona or Fermata in the Amsterdam Turandot quite so tightly.

  • Hercule says:

I’m surprised Muti hasn’t been insinuated into this thread yet. Come on people! You’re letting down your side!!

  • Willym says:

The clattering of pearls being clutched is almost deafening!

  • Margaret Koscielny says:

It’s Summer, and the Livin’ is easy.

He is rather “hot,” though, isn’t he?

  • AP says:

If you have ever worked with him, you’d know how serious of a musician he is. Very disciplined and very talented. Self-centered? Of course. Name one conductor who is not!
PLUS – he gets new public attention to classical music and that is much appreciated, I would say!
    Regards

  • Paul says:

He isn’t hurting anyone, just having fun on his vacation. This is his sense of humor. He seems to be very serious about his music.

  • poyu says:

From his IG: the photo is now taken down since it offended some people.
Like his taste of photo choice or not, what kind of snowflakes would be offended by this? It‘s not like he never show his body before. It‘s stupid enough to complain a female pianist showing too much back in a concert, now people want to rule how a male musician post himself in a holiday photo? Where will these dressing and culture police stop?

  • Edoardo says:

I fail to see what is the problem here…
