Walkout symphony finds new stick

The Winston-Salem Symphony in North Carolina lost its last music director two years ago to burnout.

After coolly surveying a long list of 67 candidates, Winston has chosen Michelle Merrill, a former assistant music director at the Detroit Symphony.

Merrill, 39, is presently conducting in Georgia.
