Spain’s La Sexta television channel has screened an interview with a woman who describes herself as an opera singer, claiming that the tenor tried to kiss and touch her 20 years ago. The woman’s identity was withheld and she was shrouded in darkness.

She said: ‘One of the first things they tell you is don’t go up in the lift alone with Placido Domingo.’

The item has been reported in the New York Post, by Reuters news agency and across Spanish mass media.

Placido Domingo will turn 82 at the end of this week.

The “anonymous” is a contemptible ghoul.

    • Nick2 says:

And E Rand and others have no idea what they are talking about. I have stated on at least 3 occasions on this forum that I personally saw evidence of molestation by PD against young women in the music profession. It was not only me. On one occasion the former General Director of a major European Opera House was present as at the same time was the former Managing Director of a major London Orchestra and the regional director of one of the world’s top artists’ agencies. E Rand should also take into account the findings of the official independent enquiry by the LA Opera. These are facts!

“With metoo, Mozart would be in jail.” (Riccardo Muti)

      • E Rand says:

It’s not that I have no idea-I don’t care, and it seems many others share my opinion.

Someone did something bad to you? Sorry to hear that – Go through proper channels. But “anonymous” reporting something happened decades ago no longer persuades, and in our increasingly credulous society (“believe all women!” lol what a farce) it’s far too easily abused.

        • Anastasia Megert says:

          Very good opinion, E Rand.

I also do not understand why all these women do not go to the police or the court, but go to the journalists.

If these women’s cars are stolen or their wallets are stolen, will they also go to the journalists?

  • Alviano says:

I have had it with anonymous, unsubstantiated, 20-year-old accusations.
Now my sympathy is entirely with the “perp,” not the “victim.”

  • TNVol says:

Somebody is reported as having said someone else was a letch 20 years ago… when they were 62 years old. And by gosh (“titter titter”) don’t get on an elevator alone with them (“he he ha ha”).

BORING. Anyone else getting tired of this fascist millennial/x/z social media cancel culture?

  • Tamino says:

    a bit late, Mrs. Anonymous…

  • Brian says:

How disgusting to launch accusations 20 years later and under the cover of anonymity. And how disgusting for the press to cover it. Journalism really is dead.

  • Madeleine Richardson says:

It took her twenty years when accusations have been flying around since 2019? What a load of rubbish.

  • Guest says:

He tried to kiss her and 20 years later she gets PSD? Metoo is past its expiration date for public interest and an attempted kiss ain’t all that interesting.

  • Carl says:

I wonder how many of Domingo’s defenders here are from his own family or inner circle, hoping to guide public opinion from a comments section. Or maybe they’re Domingo himself?

At any rate, I hope this woman he abused finds peace and can move on from this ordeal.

  • EastsideArts says:

Beating dead horse. For goodness sakes, he is not accused of rape or assault! Give it a rest.

  • Industry says:

We have known PD does this for YEARS. It’s a COMMON FACT in the opera world. And the old white men protect him as they sell him tickets – Peter Gelb and The Met, LA Opera. THEY ALL KNOW. But as ever with the white boys club, they rub each other’s backs and …. don’t shame this woman. Shame all of them for continuing to peddle PD out there for cash. We ALL know he does this.

  • Katerina Waldersee says:

So far MeToo have failed to cancel Placido Domingo despite their well spun “accusations” in the U.S. Now they’re trying to attack him directly at home, where general elections this year may bring the end of the “woke” government. If, as the Spanish TV programme claims, Domingo’s power in the opera world has been so reduced, why does the Spanish “singer” not show her face?

    • Madeleine Richardson says:

Accusing anyone without providing proof or one’s identity is tantamount to a vendetta. I wonder why?

  • John Soutter says:

    More careless typos.

  • Anastasia Megert says:

I watched this woman’s interview in Spanish several times. She did not provide any evidence for her claims. Just her words. Using this approach, it is possible accuse anyone in any crime.

Is it normal now to accuse singers, actors, politicians without any evidence? Of course, as there is no responsibility for false accusations.
