Spitfire Audio, which provides virtual instrument sample libraries to the film industry has suspended its co-founder, composer Christian Henson, after he announced his support for J K Rowling in her battles with trans campaigners.

The company’s site came swiftly under attack.

Today, Henson was suspended and the company apologised.

Henson has deactivated his social media.

Freedom of expression, anyone?

Welcome to the ruthless world of the muggles!

  • Bone says:

Anyone is free to express themselves; no employer has to continue to pay someone, though.
As a retired person, I genuinely feel sorry for people who have to work at jobs infected by the woke mentality. Walking on eggshells all day and not being able to express an opinion contrary to the woke narrative has to be draining.

    • Bill says:

Because the non-woke are always so tolerant of other viewpoints, right? People have been working for bosses with different views since day 1. If you don’t like the boss, get promoted, find another job, quit, etc.

    • Gustavo says:

And a clear lack of humour and self-irony in that ultra-woke part of the society, making social interactions complicated and causing even more social segregation.

Just think of the current genderising of the German language.

Better stop using language all together.

    • alte Schule says:

I too miss the days at my workplace when I didn’t have to walk on eggshells and could call someone a verdammtes Judenschwein without worrying about their feelings or sensibilities.

    • George says:

      He owns the company.

  • Stephen Owades says:

Freedom of expression does not mean freedom from the consequences of what you say.

    • Harry Storm says:

Oh that old pile of garbage. The consequence of saying something as anodyne as what Christian said should be a discussion or an argument. And agreeing with JK Rowling regarding sex-based rights doesn’t make one a transphobe; she isn’t one either, your sort have turned her into one but the backlash to this Orwellian crap is coming.

    • Paul Brownsey says:

Does it not mean being protected from certain sorts of consequences, e.g. if you seek to beat someone up for what they have said?

      • Paul Brownsey says:

Am I correct to infer that those who downvoted me think it’s OK to beat up a person who has said something you disagree with?

        If I am–Golly!

    • Robin Arthur Blick says:

Incredible statement. One of the ‘consequences’ in Russia can be 15 years in jail. Here it can be a jail term of up to seven years, the sack and social ostracism. Under the Inquisition, it was burning at the stake.

  • Janey says:

    History is repeating itself:

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me. —Martin Niemöller

  • Honestly People says:

Oh just wake up people. This is all absurd. Altho…. it HAS given me an out to my mom who does not like that i am gay. I profess: I identify as a woman now. Great! i can sleep with men and we can all consider me straight.

  • Finlay says:

These banners appear more like barriers…a culture of being offended by disagreement of opinion. A distraction for allowing people what ever they are or want to be to crack on with being creative or not.

  • Alexander Graham Cracker says:

The “inclusive” sure like to exclude.

  • Curvy Honk Glove says:

I thought we were all in agreement that trans women ARE women. I mean, didn’t we all change our Facebook profiles and whatnot as a show of support?

  • M McGrath says:

You should be able to support whomever you like. Even Harry Potter’s mom.

I have to look up TERF.

China has the right idea. Social media needs to be controlled. Anonymous posting should definitely be out. And much of the world’s population is too stupid to use social media – Rene Pape, dear Anna N, and this guy in the article come to mind. Unfortunately, in a free world, we have to put up with idiots 🙂

Meanwhile, on the music front (which is why we’re here): Exciting Asmik Grigorian recitals are taking place this month. Anyone going?

  • Robert Holmén says:

That’s him? That’s the issue he felt he needed to speak out on?

    Overcompensating.

  • J Barcelo says:

This Orwellian dystopia we’re living is going to be the doom of mankind, although that term is likely outlawed nowadays. Groupthink is ruining freedom of thought and opinions. In 40 years I’ll be long gone, but these woke fascists will still be living in the hell hole they created.

    • James Minch says:

America (no longer the ‘the land of the free and the home of the brave’) seems to be doomed and that will mean a great deal of instability for the rest of the world. There’s likely to be a lot of war.

Not since Nazi Germany has there been such collective madness.

  • Gerry Feinsteen says:

I just googled TERF. What complete nonsense. These T right-wingers are quite disturbing.
All of us were born from the womb of a woman. Try debating that.

They take software and say it is hardware.

  • Player says:

If he is the co-founder, how come it is so easy to push him around? One would have hoped he might be able to stand and fight.

    • James Minch says:

There are five directors. If the others are cowards or just want him out, there won’t be much he can do.

Spitfire Audio have been very foolish. They should have ignored the Twitter nutters and said nothing.

  • James Minch says:

If you have XX chromosomes, you are female.

If you have XY chromosomes, you are male.

Most people are attracted to members of of the opposite sex. A few people are for some unknown reason, attracted to members of the same sex. There is nowadays some tolerance of this homosexuality but stereotypical behaviour is only accepted in particular contexts. Many people find it hard to accept the redefinition of a concept such as marriage.

A very small number of people consider that they have a body of the wrong sex. Some members of the medical profession now treat this mental discomfort (or dysphoria) with surgery and hormones. Wearing clothes typical of the opposite sex is called transvestism. Someone who has undergone surgery is referred to as transsexual. There is currently pressure to refer to all those experiencing discomfort with their sex as ‘trans’.

Before the 21st century, the few well known transsexuals seem to have been treated respectfully and to have behaved in a dignified way. In the musical world one might think of Walter/Wendy Carlos or Wally Stott/Angela Morley.

In the 21st century, it began to be claimed that transvestite and transsexual ‘men’ and ‘women’ are factually men and women respectively. Some of these people demand that they be referred to in a particular way (an emphasis on the pronouns that other people may use) and that they have access to the facilities of the opposite sex such as toilets and changing rooms (also prisons). Some transvestite or transsexual ‘women’ demand that they should be allowed to participate in women’s sport.

The majority of individuals seem to be uncomfortable being told what language they can use, don’t want men in women’s changing rooms, and think it’s absolutely wrong that men should compete in women’s sport. Many organizations (including businesses) have however been fearful of criticism (expressed on the Internet) and have felt obliged to signal support for ‘trans rights’ even though it may not be obvious how such matters relate to their purpose. In this climate, individuals have often become fearful of becoming persona non grata (this is now known as cancellation). People are often unsure what they can and cannot say and there has been a stifling of humour and creativity.

The tyranny of ‘trans’ orthodoxy (along with a patronizing and indulgent attitude to black people) has spread rapidly from America through the English-speaking world and into continental Europe. It’s difficult to see how the trend can be reversed in the US but in the UK there is now a growing resistance. A properly conservative government, the dependence of many institutions (including universities) on a degree of government funding, the threat to the BBC’s licence fee, criticism of the priorities of the police, an economic recession, and the independence of the British people, may bring about a reversal.

Trans women are men! Trans men are women! It’s not a problem as long as there’s an emphasis on good manners.

Unfortunately Spitfire Audio have behaved contemptibly and shown themselves to be part of the problem.

  • Plush says:

Spitfire Audio specializes in putting orchestra people out of work and down sliding the music listening experience by fronting fake orchestra sound played on a keyboard. They should be shunned by the classical press, not given attention here on SD.

  • George says:

So when father speaks up against groomers, a tiny, tiny minority go crazy. Who cares 99.9% of the world agree with him.
