Ex-head of music is banned from teaching
NewsA former Director of Chapel Music at Winchester College has been banned from teaching for life, despite being acquitted by a jury in 2019 on two charges of indecent assault and indecency with a child. He denied the allegations.
Malcolm Archer, now 70, also taught at Magdalen College School (pictured), in Oxford. Fromm 2004 to 2007 he was director of music at St Paul’s Cathedral.
The UK Government’s teacher misconduct panel has now banned him for life from teaching, ruling: ‘The panel was satisfied that the conduct of Mr Archer amounted to misconduct of a serious nature which fell significantly short of the standards expected of the profession.’
Wonder how many more cathedral organists are lined up in this endless witch-hunt.
To anyone suggesting this is a “witch hunt,” I suggest you fully read the Secretary of State’s report which includes the details of what happened…
As ever, it is the poor children who were hunted….
It is essential to safeguard children from these hideous abusers who use their roles within schools, music schools and the church to cloak their true depravity.
maybe I have mis-understood the Secretary of State’s report but it seems to be based on a charge on which he has already been acquitted in court. Is this right?
I thought he had been acquitted years ago of these charges. I therefore don’t understand this judgement.
One would expect the standard of behaviour required to teach children to be a bit higher than “not illegal”
I have read the report – what he is accused of is awful and illegal. So why the different outcome from the earlier court judgment?
Furthermore, the report makes no reference to the earlier court case (as far as I can see). Very odd.
