The Finnish conductor has told VAN magazine that he is stepping down at the Seoul Philharmonic after three years.

Does this put Osmo in the running for one of the many music director positions open in the US right now?

  • Chris says:

As far as I know Seoul declined to renew and informed him of their decision earlier this year (not the other way around). I think they should have renewed for another term.

Maybe off to Chicago? Or, NYC?

At first I thought Han-Na Chang, in that someone Korean might have a better feel for the political and cultural context, but then I began to wonder if a younger woman would not start off with some disadvantages. There is still a fair bit of sexism in Korean culture.

  • West Coast Back Row says:

I like how he supported his musicians in Minnesota, but as a conductor he is seriously overrated.

  • Karl says:

It is very hard to see how Seoul Phil could let him go. All best wishes to the Orchestra and to Osmo.
