Message from Maria Guleghina:

Мне очень больно и горько , но я не смогу петь концерт , пусть даже для моей самой родной и любимой публики, которой я служила всей сердцем и душой – пока идёт война на моей Родине – Украине. Вчера бомбили мою Одессу . Голос это человеческая душа , она болит и невозможно петь с такой болью и раной в сердце.
It is very painful, but I will not be able to sing a concert, even for my dearest and most beloved audience, which I served with all my heart and soul – while there is a war in my homeland – Ukraine. Yesterday they bombed my birthplace Odessa. The voice is the human soul, it hurts and it is impossible to sing with such pain in the heart.

Guleghina has sung 160 times at the Met.

In 2018, she made her Wagner debut as Kundry in Parsifal at the Mariinsky Theatre under Valery Gergiev. I

That’s what Netrebko should say from the beginning of this conflict.

A great person, a great singer, a great artist.

She is 62 years old. She has been singing hideously for 10 years. Theaters have not hired Gulegina for a long time. The public won’t notice her protest.

  • Rafael F says:

She is or has been retired for a long while. Sounds more like a publicity stunt to gain notoriety. Artists get involved in politics when it’s convenient for them, but hate it when their own checkbooks are affected.

  • CRogers says:

Christ! The cynicism in these comments…….
