Birgit Nilsson cash goes to a fellow-Swede
NewsThe Swedish soprano Cornelia Beskow, 35, has been awarded the $20,000 Birgit Nilsson stipend for 2022.
She will perform in Birgit Nilsson’s parish church at Västra Karup, in this year’s “Birgit Nilsson Days”.
Beskow is the granddaughter of the Swedish writer and director Gideon Wahlberg.
Past recipients of the Nilsson award include Anna Larsson, Nina Stemme and Malin Byström.
She was fabulous in the recent Keith Warner production of Jenufa in Oslo. A worthy winner!
