When a footballer ‘does a hamstring’ he’s off the pitch right away and out of action for a couple of months.

So raise a cheer for the German tenor Matthias Koziorowski, a new member of the Graz ensemble. Matthias tore his Achilles tendon, the longest in the human body, midway through the first performance of  the operetta ‘Clivia’.

He sang through to the end in great pain, with an assistant director stepping up on stage to cover his dance scenes.

Unfair to athletes. Many play through pain, some at great risk. One pro (CFL) football player I know limped off after being downed and injured. The medical check was so cursory that the doctor considered himself satisfied — with the wrong knee. He was sent back on, and, after the game, to the hospital for treatment of a career-ending injury.

Should take legal action against the club

M.Koziorowski – as his Polish name it is revealing – is NOT German. Even if is travelling from Germany.

    Is NOT a German.

    Heroism?

Yes, the man gave priority to the music instead of his own Self. Fortunately such damage is not lethal, like the Jochanaan singer in Salome who is drastically silenced at 3/4 of the opera.
