Breaking: Italy appoints first woman chief of major opera house
NewsThe Teatro Comunale of Bologna has named the Ukrainian conductor Oksana Lyniv as its music director from January 2022.
Lyniv, 43, made her name last summer as conductor of The Flying Dutchman at Bayreuth. Before that, she was music director in Graz, Austria.
In Bologna she will be required to conduct two operas and two concerts each season.
.
She succeeds Michele Mariotti.
Good choice. I have chance to have seen her debut in Bayreuth last summer, the good things I read here were right. Bologna has a long history of great names like Celibidache , Gatti and Chailly.
As much as I am not quite always the biggest fan of Scappucci, she was appointed musical director of the Liège Opera a couple years ago… By the way, Lyniv is coming for an interesting production of Suor Angelica and Mese Mariano next January!
A music director who has to conduct only two operas and two concerts per season – you have got to be kidding me.
It means two opera productions (more than one performance), and two Symphony concerts.
And a short piece for solo kazoo.
Teatro Comunale with just one m, that’s italian not french
I thought her Holländer was horrid… totally not together, static, unmusical….
KEEP
CALM
and
PLAY
CIMBASSO
Came here just to say I love her shirt!
Anybody who wears a shirt that says, “Keep calm and play the Wagner Tuba” is alright in my book.
Agree, the Wagner tuba is so horny. 😉
…coMunale.
I have watched many operas at the Comunale over the past decade but how was she chosen as our Music Director if she has never conducted an opera in our theatre before?
