A George Floyd death is alleged in central Europe

A young Romani man has died in the Czech town of Teplice after police kneeled on his neck in a manner similiar to the death last year of the American arrest victim George Floyd.

Video of the incident is circulating widely, raising tensions among the marginalised Roma minority. The incident is being bracketed with an attack on Romani children at a music camp run by the Romani musician Ida Kelarová and the death of a Romani man in police custody.

The video is disturbing. Do not watch with vulnerable persons.

No cred is given to support Roma people. Therefore, the good people who supported Floyd will look another way.

    • BRUCEB says:

In the US, people are mostly unaware of what Roma even means, much less their status in European society or the discrimination they face.

  • M McAlpine says:

You don’t think BLM will take notice do you? No political points to make from this!

  • Ben G. says:

I sympathize with the diffusion of this video Norman, and expect it to go viral as much as possible.

However, this website is geared in communicating daily musical news and related activities.

Where and how then, does this incident fit in?

  • Ben G. says:

    Sorry, mea culpa….

There is a musical connection concerning the Summer Arts School, in the article which I failed to read beforehand.

  • Novagerio says:

How about a RLM movement for Roma-rights?…

  • Karl says:

Like Floyd he was on drugs and fought with the cops. “A doctor recorded the preliminary cause of death as a drug overdose.”

Don’t commit crimes; don’t do drugs; and don’t fight police. Anything else?

      • V.Lind says:

        Don’t state the obvious?

        • Bone says:

In the US, the obvious is anything but these days. Glad I live far, far away from the craziness and am retired from public education. The next few years in our country may be the literal tipping point (although I’m quite sure the rest of the world thinks that has already been reached by Americans LOL – you definitely don’t want to import our brand of crazy).

Don’t be black, or any colour but white!

“Don’t commit crimes; don’t do drugs; and don’t fight police. Anything else?” Yes. Be kind to animals.

    • psq says:

In the case of Floyd, the preliminary report of “drug overdose as the cause of death” was thoroughly refuted by other medical specialists in court. This and many many other aspects of the Floyd’s case were the reason why Chauvin was found guilty of murder.

      • Hayne says:

There were at least 45 people shot and 6 people killed last weekend in Chicago, including a 2 year old girl. But really, who cares?

    • BRUCEB says:

Therefore anyone who fights with the cops while on drugs (or not on drugs I guess) should be killed after they’ve been brought under control, with no questions asked?

In Floyd’s case, the cops subdued him; then what’s-his-name kept kneeling on his back after he was in handcuffs, and then kept kneeling on his back a good while after he was unconscious.

In this video they’ve got him subdued by the 1-minute mark, when the 3rd cop gets off him; he’s in handcuffs by 2 minutes; by 3 minutes he’s no longer struggling; a little after that the 2nd cop gets off his legs, and by 4 minutes he’s gone limp. (The cop on his back seems to be having trouble with the wrist restraints; do they take them off again, or do they just come loose?) In any case, the one cop stops kneeling on him by about 5 1/2 minutes.

I’m not sufficiently versed in such things to know if they went too far, and I can’t understand what anyone is saying. So it’s hard to tell.

Was he a career criminal crackhead like Saint George Floyd?
