Milva, RIP

Milva, RIP

RIP

April 24, 2021

The phenomenal Italian singer Milva, whose range extended from San Remo pop to Berio modernism, has died at 81.

I remember her best in an Almeida concert of songs by Weill and Eisler, her UK debut in the 1980s.

She also worked with Piazzolla, Theodorakis and other composers with a popular touch.

    Addio, cara signora Milva.

I too remember her Weill especially – not least on that otherwise strange set of the Dreigroschenoper with Dernesch, Kollo et al., where she pretty much steals the show. RIP.

Great italian singer maybe in the shadow sometimes or less popular than Iva Zanicchi, Ornella Vanoni and of course Mina.

Your music has accompanied me my whole life and will continue to do so. Happy memories, tinged with sadness thinking of loved ones long gone before you. Grazie.
