The Armenian doublebass Karen Martirossian Ahmedov has died after a long illness.

Karen lived and taught in Spain and played in the Symphony Orchestra of India.

He was assistant principal of the Orquesta Sinfónica de la Radiotelevisión Española in Madrid.

    My condolences to his family and friends. While I had heard of him, I never heard him perform.

    Also, for what it’s worth, in Western-Armenian his first name would be transliterated and pronounced as “Garen” (pronounced Gah-ren). “Karen” might appear to be a typo, but in fact it’s the Eastern-Armenian incarnation of that same first name,, and is not pronounced as we would pronounce the female name Karen (it would be pronounced Kah-ren).
