Tanglewood is about to do the same.

Lincoln Center also plans to utilise its wide open spaces.

  • New Yorker says:

because Peter Gelb is incompetent. When suggested with the possibility of streaming performances during the pandemic, which is how most other arts organizations around the world responded, his reaction was “well, I don’t think we’d even try that….performing to no audience would just be depressing.” Brilliant move to just use the complete recorded catalog instead and throw the entire company into the street. The Met has no future with that clown at the helm. Incompetent failure.

  • James Weiss says:

Ravinia is already outdoors. Always has been.

  • RW2013 says:

At Lincoln Center they could utilise all the car horns to do the Prelude to Le Grand Macabre.

  • J Barcelo says:

You mean actually play in the square in front of Lincoln Center? In one of the noisiest cities on earth? Better to go play in Central Park like the NYPO used to do, or a baseball stadium of years gone by.

  • Morgan says:

There is a plan being pulled together for Lincoln Center for the late spring and summer but it has not been releases.

  • MusicBear88 says:

Isn’t it obvious? Lincoln Center is in the middle of New York City, about 66th and Broadway, where the noise pollution alone would make an outdoor concert almost impossible to enjoy. But they could erect an amphitheater there and announce a season of only your favorite pieces and you’d still find something to bitch about because it’s THEM.

  • Petros Linardos says:

Because the Lincoln Center cannot do anything right, according to this blog.

  • Dee cee says:

Maybe Francesca zambella should run All the buildings, glimmerglass is doing outdoor shows upstate in NY, looks like she is really trying to keep Opera alive, Met is only doing streaming, Gelb is the worst Met GM ever…

  • fflambeau says:

    It’s smart.

  • Joel stein says:

Lincoln Center will be announcing “Restart Stages” on April 7, a series of 10 outdoor concerts according to its website.

  • Mr. Knowitall says:

The Ravinia Summer Festival is always an outdoors festival. The news is not that it will be held outdoors but that it will be held at all.

  • J Barcelo says:

And the Grand Teton Music Festival is going ahead with indoor concerts this summer, except the annual outdoor patriotic pops concert. Fireworks don’t do so well inside. Sir Donald Runnicles at the helm.
