Arina Pan is one of several Conservatoire students in Moscow who have been loaded into police waggons during anti-Putin demonstrations and crammed in filthy jails. Arina, a gifted piano student, received 10 days detention just for walking past the court where Alexei Navalny was on trial.

Arina says: ‘We are proud of our home country and what kind of future we are heading into!’

In other Putin news, the Moscow Philharmonic official who posted a ‘free political prisoners’ notice has been identified and forced out of his job.

“Moscow music students are dragged off to jail”

Because Putin loves culture so much, each political prisoner gets her/his own musician!

  • Curvy Honk Glove says:

Evidently, Putin has the courage to do what the Biden administration won’t. It’s well past time for the Americans to purge the tRumptards in their midst. The dissent, delusion, and insurrection against authority must be excised and silenced.

    • Music fan says:

The two situations are not comparable, and comparing these freedom fighters with “tRumptards” is sheer nonsense – if anything, Putin with his oligarch corruption is more like Trump than any current leader. And if you ever wondered why so many musicians fled Soviet Russia, the last few weeks are a apt demonstration.

      • Curvy Honk Glove says:

No comparison is needed. tRumpsters are anti-establishment, political dissidents attempting to derail this administration’s discourse and process at every turn. The US can’t move forward as long as they’re allowed a presence, and until we move forward, we can’t get back to where we were.

Trump is gone and will never return: he’s 75 years old and in bad health having had covid and his mind has been affected by all the experimental drugs he took. He was also a big coke snorter. I give him a year to live. Even with him gone, his “movement” looks pathetically weak.

    • Hayne says:

But somehow you’re safe from the purge…

    • Fliszt says:

Oh yeah, right – so in using your logic, any kid carrying a violin case who walks past the Capital should be thrown into prison!

  • henry williams says:

we are lucky we live in england.

  • James McCarty says:

    Are they violists?

  • JussiB says:

Judging from the photo, looks like Putin will hear from the Chinese government about this.

  • Le Křenek du jour says:

    > “ …a gifted piano student —— filthy jails…”

No need for special pleading here.
Even if Arina Pan were an utterly talentless violist, and Putin’s gaols as spotless as his palace, her detention would scream injustice, abuse of power, the reign of the arbitrary.
May it remind us that we are subsidizing this rotten régime with every litre of Rosneft gasoline, with every cubic meter of Gazprom methane we are buying.
We are propping up Putin’s appalling kleptocracy unless we hold to account its profiteers, including on its musical fringes.

  • fflambeau says:

The Tsar was forced out and executed; Putin will not be far behind.

  • Sharon says:

What a pity! And yet we have heard next to nothing about this in the US media.
