German opera singer goes on trial for rape at premiere party
mainA chorus singer at the Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe has gone on trial accused of raping a male colleague in January 2019. The attack is alleged to have taken place in a dressing room during a first-night party.
The defendant, 56, denied all charges.
‘I have nothing to report, neither as a witness nor as a perpetrator,’ he said. He admitted to being drunk that night, after consuming two and a half beers and a rum.
The trial continues.
The Badisches Staatstheater Karlsruhe is a very troubled house, already under investigation for pornography distribution.
When a cast party is alcohol fueled and degenerates to the point where both accuser and accused are nearly blacking out drunk, the fault lies in management for allowing such conditions to arise.
The house and management should be sued, if not also held criminally liable.
I rarely touch alcohol but I have in the past been to parties, and I would not be anywhere near “blacking out drunk” on two and a half beers and a rum,” should I ever make that unappealing (to me) combination. I scent porkies here.

I heard of another instance in which a singer thinks their drink was spiked. At a party in the theater canteen. As far as I know, the management did nothing. The theater is notorious.
