Another big success for Chailly (I’am not honest when I’am talking about him because he’s the GOAT for me) after Tosca last year who had excellent ratings, the Requiem at the Duomo and the concert on the Duomo Square. La Scala with him is living a new golden age it seems to be a fact. And there’s also the excellent records of la Filarmonica with the Respighi and Rota albums with Decca.
Carlos Kleiber could have been the GOAT aber dazu hatte er keinen Bock.
Chailly is pretty special, it has to be said.

the “muzzle” of Chailly maybe didn’t save life or maybe yes… But Chailly gave me hope and appeasement during this very difficult year with La Scala in concert before the Covid-19 when I saw him in January and after on tv and on the internet.

1) Piotr Beczała singing Nessun Dorma against a solar system backdrop was, visually, nothing short of cosmic, and facing a full orchestra on the same stage, at La Scala: every tenor’s wet dream
2) On the other hand, every woman’s nightmare: seeing Domingo and Grigolo parading through on the same night on the same stage. What was the message here, we accept all of the Met’s rejects?
Chailly is a great conductor.
