The Italian state broadcaster RAI has claimed 2,608,000 viewers for the La Scala opening gala, an audience share of 14.7%.

Very good to see Riccardo Chailly conducting safely in a full mask.

Video report here.

  • Another big success for Chailly (I’am not honest when I’am talking about him because he’s the GOAT for me) after Tosca last year who had excellent ratings, the Requiem at the Duomo and the concert on the Duomo Square. La Scala with him is living a new golden age it seems to be a fact. And there’s also the excellent records of la Filarmonica with the Respighi and Rota albums with Decca.

  • Anthony Sayer says:

BTW: How many musicians were saved from certain death by Chailly wearing a pointless muzzle? This kind of nonsense is not good to see at all.

    1) Piotr Beczała singing Nessun Dorma against a solar system backdrop was, visually, nothing short of cosmic, and facing a full orchestra on the same stage, at La Scala: every tenor’s wet dream
    2) On the other hand, every woman’s nightmare: seeing Domingo and Grigolo parading through on the same night on the same stage. What was the message here, we accept all of the Met’s rejects?

  • fflambeau says:

    Chailly is a great conductor.

  • Edite says:

Is there a site to watch replay of the concert free of charge?

  • Ludwig250 says:

i watched the entire concert on youtube (uploaded by russians). fantastic stagings!

  • Edgar Self says:

An audience of 2.6 million and 14.7% viewersh[p for an operatic telcast of anything anywhere. impresses me.
