Ex-Covent Garden singer died of Covid
mainThe Irish News has a belated obituary for Paschal Allen, an Irish baritone who sang for 15 years in the Royal Opera House chorus in London.
He also sang at Glyndebourne and with Benjamin Britten’s English Opera Company.
Paschal died in April of Covid, aged 87.
He was a very genial and much-loved member of the ROH Chorus. I had the impression that he didn’t relish the pressure of singing leading roles, or else his career might have gone in a different direction, as his voice was certainly a fine one. Nonetheless he did sing a few small roles at ROH and understudied many others. RIP Paschal.
