The Frenchman Olivier Tardy has been chosen as the new chief of the Brandenburg Symphony Orchestra. He starts next season, succeeding the veteran Peter Gülke, 86.

Tardy is a former principal flute at Bavarian State Opera.

  • Charles Clark-Maxwell says:

By “chief” do you mean a CEO/executive type ?
    Or principal conductor ?

  • Andreas B. says:

I’ve played under Olivier several times – enthusiastic musician, engaging and charming personality.

Interestingly, before Gülke, the GMD in Brandenburg for 15 years was Michael Helmrath: another ex- Munich wind principal (oboe with Celibidache’s Munich Philharmonic)

  • Axl says:

I didn’t know that he’s resigned/former principal flute? Where you get this information?
He’s still listed in orchetra’s website + there isn’t audition for principal flute
