It looks like Boston will be the first ensemble to cancel a China tour as a result of the Coronavirus.

The Boston Symphony Orchestra is due next week to tour Seoul, Taipei, Hong Kong and Shanghai — all cities affected by the virus.

The orchestra and the Mayor said they were monitoring the situation.

Concert halls in Hong Kong and Shanghai have been shut down. More than 130 deaths have been reported.

Hi Norman, What are your sources for this info?

While this is a bummer for the BSO if the cancellation is indeed going to happen, it offers the great opportunity for the orchestra to introduce their music director to some great American symphonic music. There are plenty of scores which deserve to be brought to life (Hanson, Piston, Rouse, Harbison,….).

Make America’s music great, as act of subversion against its president making America grate!

    Just sayin’.
